As the major upgrade of Willoughby Leisure Centre continues to progress, we want to keep the community informed about any upcoming work that may affect your experience at the centre.

While the Gym and Sports Hall have remained open during the construction of the new aquatic facility, over the next 6 months, there will be times when the Sports Hall and Gym will need to close for essential works to ensure the space meets modern standards.

Timeline of refurbishment works:

Over the next 4 weeks commencing Thursday 20 March, there will be periods of noise disruptions at various times during the day as we improve the facility for a better customer experience. The following works and refurbishments will take place:

  • Installation of hoarding around old spa and sauna
This will serve as a sound barrier to help reduce noise from the upcoming demolition works.
  • Removal of the old swim school office
The space will be incorporated into The Zone, a dedicated exercise and stretching area that will remain when the pool and café reopen.
  • Removal of steps next to the old swim school office
These steps will be demolished to make way for the installation of a wheelchair lift, enhancing accessibility to the pool hall.

Timeline of roof replacement:

  • Stage 1: Sports Hall roof replacement
  • Planned start: Mid-April 2025
  • The Sports Hall will be closed for approximately 4 to 6 weeks.
  • The Health Club (gym) remains open, and classes will continue in The Zone and Cycle Studio.
  • The majority of Sports Hall classes will move to 139 Artarmon Road Community Hall, a 5-minute walk from Artarmon Station. Parking is available nearby. View Map to 139 Artarmon Road Community Hall
  • Tuesday and Thursday 6am Yoga will move to the Netball Room under the Sports Hall.
  • Stage 2: Central Spine roof replacement
  • Planned Start: Mid-June 2025
  • The Sports Hall reopens, and classes return to Willoughby Leisure Centre.
  • The Health Club will close for approximately 4 to 6 weeks.
  • Classes in The Zone and Cycle Studio will be relocated where possible.
  • Facility entry will move to the Sports Hall, and bathrooms will be available under the Sports Hall.
